Just Ask

For today’s Sunday song, it’s “Just Ask” from one of my favorite bands, Lake Street Dive. Yet again, another performance from my beloved KEXP. The lead singer is FIRE and I’m going to see them on Tuesday and Wednesday. Enjoy!

YES! She’s back and just as good as ever! Only the Queen can get away with releasing the same album and just adding a few new songs to it. But remixes, live performances, a calendar, photo books and music videos?! She’s EVERYTHING!

How Loud Your Heart Gets

November 9, 2014 2 comments

I’m starting this new thing called “Sunday Song” where every Sunday, I’ll upload a song that’s been stuck in my head, that I just like or that inspires me. Today’s song does all of those and I really dig the lyrics. It’s called “How Loud Your Heart Gets” by this incredible band, Lucius. I saw them in Vermont this past Fall at the Grand Point North festival and they’ve been my obsession ever since. Enjoy!

Idina Menzel

Idina Menzel

I just had to bring this up. It’s been what, two days since the Oscars? I’m still furious! The picture above is of a woman named Idina Menzel, who in my opinion, is one of the most talented women of our time. She’s a Broadway star. She’s an actress. She’s a singer. She was the star of Rent. She played “Rachel Berry’s” mother in Glee and probably most importantly, she lent her voice to Disney’s latest hit, Frozen, and who doesn’t love a good Disney movie?

If you haven’t heard, John Travolta butchered her name at the Oscars, introducing her as Adele Dazeem or something like that and to be perfectly blunt, I’M FURIOUS. If you are lucky enough to have the opportunity to introduce a star at the Oscars, or even be there period, you should have their name right. John Travolta, sir, you better get your act together!

That’s all.

You May See Me

It’s been far too long since I’ve been a part of the blogosphere, and for that, frankly, I suck. I’ll be back soon with some fun stuff: ya know, music, movies, life, and all that jazz (total Broadway reference).

Anywho, no surprise here, but Grace Potter and the Nocturnals are STILL my obsession (even though my Grandmother assured me that I’d be over the obsession after a few months). I’ve been listening to this song on repeat lately. I’m not sure why, or what it means in particular, but yeah. Happy Saturday, or Sunday morning depending on how you look at it.

Fear of Tornadoes

As Day 2 of Operation 10K for OK kicks off, Bryan Jordan, myself and Bus Driver Ron will depart in about an hour from Effingham, IL. We got in late yesterday evening, grabbed some food and got some much-needed sleep.
Day 2 will take us all the way into Oklahoma City, where we’ll stay for the night. Our most recent update is that there is some flash flood watches throughout Missouri and into Oklahoma, so we’ll see what we can do. Our bus is pretty beastly and Bus Driver Ron seems calm and cool as usual.
Heading into Oklahoma is going to be one emotionally intense trip, but I’m excited. At the beginning of this trip, I was horrified to leave Lancaster, because of my overwhelming fear of tornadoes. Today, I haven’t even let the fear get to me. It’s not about me, or my fears. Today, I look forward to getting on the road and getting one step closer to helping the tornado victims in any way possible. I’ll catch up with you guys a little later today.

The Experience of a Lifetime

June 3, 2013 2 comments

Less than two weeks ago, Moore, Oklahoma endured what some would call one of the worst natural disasters in history. A F5 tornado ripped through the town, destroying homes, businesses, property and anything else that got in its way. Unfortunately, nearly 30 people died that day. Since then, several other tornadoes and storms have completely changed the people of Oklahoma. Since virtually everything in Moore and the nearby towns was destroyed, the people were left with absolutely nothing. No food. No clothes. No houses. While an experience like this can’t be made right, a recovery has to start somewhere. That’s where I come in.
I currently work for a company known as Hall Communications, which is a family owned radio company that owns radio stations “101 the Rose” and “92.7 KZF.”
Just a few days after the initial tornado, I was contacted by the office asking if I had any interest in being part of a relief effort for the victims. Since that day, less than two weeks ago, Operation “10K for OK” has been in full-fledged planning. The goal was to raise 10,000 pounds of non-perishable food, as well as other essential items. After the donations were collected, myself, along with Rose Breakfast Club member, Bryan Jordan, would hop on a charter bus (filled with the donations) and personally deliver them to Moore, Oklahoma.
Today, just a few days later, I’m writing to you from an Executive Coach bus, alongside Bryan Jordan and Bus Driver Ron, being followed by a Mellinger tractor trailer (being driven by our friend Laverne), filled with 37,420 pounds of non-perishable and essential items, en route to Oklahoma.
This small idea, proposed just days ago, turned into something huge, that will without a doubt go down in Lancaster County history.
Thanks to several employees, volunteers and Stauffers of Kissel Hill, a twelve hour donating marathon took place only yesterday.
Thanks to people from all over Central PA, we surpassed our goal by nearly 30,000 pounds and because of that, by the end of the week, several tornado victims will have food, toiletries, tools and clothing, coming all the way from a small town in Pennsylvania.
This project has renewed my hope in humanity. The generosity of so many people is inspiring. It gives me hope to know that when so many people are hurting, so many more step up to the plate to take that pain away.
Thank you PA and Hall Communications for making this possible and for providing me with the opportunity to bring a smile to so many people who may have lost theirs.
